In connection with the Great Disaster in Eastern Japan
We would like to express our sincere condolences to those who have suffered as a result of the Great Disaster that occurred in the North-Eastern region of Japan in the afternoon on 11th March 2011.
Frankly speaking, we do not know, what kind of words are appropriate here, so great was the disaster. It is easy to say phrases like “One should have hope in any situation”, but we think that this sort of reassurance is not what the people who face such enormous difficulties in the affected region really need and therefore one should not resort to such phrases.
We at our Society are currently considering what kind of help we could offer to the people from the affected region. Some homeopathy societies suggest that one should offer homeopathic remedies free of charge to the population.
There are indeed remedies that are said to help people to maintain calmness after such events as earthquakes. However, this time the disaster was complicated by an accident at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and there is a threat of radioactivity. This sort of problem was not known in the times of Hahnemann, and there are not many clinical reports concerning this. Therefore it is not very clear - if not possible - to say easily what remedies might help to prevent the danger, or what remedies are generally useful in case of exposure to radioactivity.
In some books one can find the names of remedies that might be useful in such situations, but we in our Society refrain from mentioning names of any particular remedies and prefer rather to respond to the needs of individual people who would - in their free will - contact us if they deem necessary.
We believe that at present the most important thing that is required is that those who have not been affected directly by the disaster were acting calmly and reasonably. We believe that such people should refrain from hoarding goods and products, economically use the electric power, and those who are able to work should do their best at their workplace, because these things will be most helpful for the most speedy recovery after the disaster.
There is a company from New Zealand that has offered to provide their remedies free of charge for people in Japan. We have decided that we should provide these remedies free of charge to those residing in the affected regions. However for those who live outside these affected regions the remedies will be charged to the usual prices of the remedies. The money thus received will be donated to a disaster relief fund on behalf of the Society. We are at present in the process of consideration whether the Society itself is going to get involved in fund-raising with the aim to collect such relief fund money for the disaster affected region.
We also consider the possibility of the Society participating in actual volunteer work in the affected regions when the situation is going to calm down and volunteers from general population will be allowed to enter the affected area and participate in actual relief efforts locally.
We have already posted on the blog of the Society the message to the Japanese people from Jeremy Sherr, the lecturer of the International Seminar that was hosted by the Society in January. We have also received a message of support from Stephen Gordon, the Secretary of ICH.
Homeopaths from all over the world are worried about Japan and send their cheering call to us.
Maybe it is that this is a time when we, Japanese homeopaths, are being put to a test.
We would like to encourage everybody to think together, learn together, work together, trust each other, and become a group of companions who all together might play one of the leading roles in the recovery of Japan.
Those interested in obtaining the remedies free of charge and other similar details, please contact our office, we shall respond to each individual request.
About us
About 15 years ago homeopathy was introduced into Japan. Homeopathy experienced a rapid growth: schools were founded, homeopaths graduated and began working along their clients for better health.
Nationally and internationally homeopathy is facing many challenges. In Japan, currently there are no legal requirements for practicing homeopathy. However, the Japanese Government is considering introducing some kind of standard.
In order to face these challenges, to unite and to create a body and voice for all classical homeopaths working in Japan, the Japanese Society of Classical Homeopathy (JSCHOM)/Nihon Classical Homeopathy Kyokai (NCHK) was founded in March 2010.
Our aim is to support the homeopaths, to provide continuous education for our members, and to promote homeopathy among the population.
Benefits of being a member of JSCHOM
As members of the JSCHOM, lay homeopaths in Japan could be provided with support as a profession.
In many countries of the world homeopathy is practiced as a MEDICAL discipline and medical doctors have strong opinions about homeopathy. In some countries homeopathy is allowed to be practiced only by medical doctors who have undergone additional training in homeopathy, there are also countries, such as Slovenia in Europe where medical doctors are prohibited from practicing homeopathy.
As in Japan the regulation is still missing, we have the freedom of choice. However, we have to be prepared. As an individual it is difficult to stand against an establishment, therefore being a member of the only independent homeopathic society in Japan can be useful.
The JSCHOM also organises study groups on homeopathy. Sharing experiences, positive and negative, learning from each other, exchanging information, etc is essential especially when working with people. Homeopathy practitioners could be very lonely, particularly in Japan, where the number is still small. Being part of a community brings encouragement and personal support.
Registration with the Japanese Society of Classical Homeopathy (JSCHOM)
One aim for founding JSCHOM was to raise the standard of homeopathy by introducing a “register of homeopaths in Japan”. We began with the registration in January 2011 with a period of grandfathering for 6 months. That means experienced and well respected homoeopaths will have the opportunity to register in our Society easily.
This system was suggested by Richard Pitt, who is a co-founder of the Council for Homeopathic Certification (CHC) of North America. In North America homeopathy is standing on a better platform because of the introduction of the independent and neutral CHC test. For the future, we plan working on a similar test for the registration.
Details about the Registration you will find here
Application for membership to the International Council of Homeopathy (ICH)
The Japanese Classical Homeopathy Society applied to the International Council of Homeopathy in November 2010.
